City of Boone Water Pollution Control Facility
State of Iowa - IDNR - #08-19-0-01

General Description:
The City of Boone has a Vertical Loop Reactor (VLR) activated sludge wastewater treatment plant consruction in 1994-1996. This facility is classified as a Grade IV Treatment Plant and consists of the following units:

1. Traveling bar fine - screening
2. 12" and 36" parshall flumes with sonic head flow sensor
3. Two 20,000 gallon capacity aerated grit chambers
4. Four VLR activated sludge aeration basins
5. Two 110 ft. final clarifiers
6. Post aeration basin
7. Four aerobic digesters
8. One 2 meter belt filter press

9. Diesel generator for emergency use

Receiving Stream:
Honey Creek, tributary to Des Moines River

Design Capacity:
1. 7.0 MGD
2. 4,000 lbs/day of BOD
3. 4,500 lbs/day of TSS
4. 600 lbs/day of NH3-N

City of Boone Water Treatment Facility

General Description:
The City of Boone has a 6.9 MGD Lime Softening Water Treatment Plant constructed in 1998-2000. This facility is classified as a Grade IV Treatment Plant and consists of the following units:

1. Aeration
2. Two upflow solids contact clarifiers
3. Recarbonation tank
4. Four gravity single media filters
5. Chlorine contact basin
6. Fluoridation
7. Two MG ground storage reservoir
8. High service pump station with three pumps with a capacity of a pumping rate of 1750 gpm each.
9. Diesel generator for emergency use
10. 14 shallow wells located along the east bank of the Des Moines River

The Boone Water Works also provides water to Xenia Rural Water, Logansport Water District, and Benefited Water District.
