Boone City Parks Foundation

The Boone City Parks Foundation was formed February 25, 1997 to serve as a catalyst for community betterment.

The Foundation seeks to continue the tradition of fine Boone parks by supplementing the City's limited funding.

The Foundation welcomes ideas and contributions from all who agree that the Boone City Parks are a special addition to our community.

What does the Foundation do?

  • The Foundation works with the Boone Park Commission, City officials, the school system, civic organizations and individual citizens on community beautification and historic preservation projects.
  • The Foundation encourages general gifts from community organizations, clubs, and local citizens. The Foundation also appreciates specific donations of equipment, trees, or park areas.
  • The Foundation can provide guidance on how your gift may best be used.
  • The Foundation can provide guidance on how your gift may best be used.
  • The Foundation offers an endowment for long term care of the park system. Interest earned from endowment donations will be used for future park enhancements.
  • The Foundation maintains a memorial book in the Park Office.

Directors

The Board of Directors is made up of 5 residents of the City of Boone. Terms are for 3 years and they can serve 2 consecutive terms.

Current directors are Chris Miller- Pres., Tom Peitz- Vice President Virginia Stadler-Treasurer Kim Mechura, Dr. John Murphy and John Rouse Secretary

Accomplishments

1997-Incorporated, Obtained IRS tax exempt status under Secton 501(c)(3)
1998-Tree planted Memorial Park, helped fund shelter at Fish Pond in McHose Park, obtained $33,000 grant for restroom in McHose Park.
1999-New restroom in McHose Park ($100,496.27).
2000-Installed ceiling fans in J.B. McHose Shelter.
2001-New restroom, counter and sink, and hook up to sewer in the J.B McHose Shelter.
2002-New steel doors at Scout Cabin, new sidewalk at new restroom McHose Park, Herman Ice Skating Shelter roof and steel doors.
2003-Insulate the ceiling of the Scout Cabin in McHose Park.22
2004 - Installed new energy efficient furnance in the Scout Cabin
2005 - Installed new Tri-Lite windows in the Scout Cabin
